Why Get Dive Insurance?

Contrary to what you might hear in the media or from friends and family, scuba diving is not an inherently risky sport. However, just like anything in life it’s better to be prepared for anything life might throw at you.

Just as we purchase health, car, home or rental insurance, it’s common sense to be protected.  The great thing about dive accident and travel insurance is that it isn’t expensive (comparatively speaking) and yet it can pay off big if there’s any kind of accident.

We carry DAN insurance for the company, ourselves as professionals, ourselves as individuals and we get their Travel Insurance for our personal dive trips too. Like everything else you’ll hear from us, we won’t recommend it unless we use it or would buy it for ourselves.

We require you to be insured for some of the advanced and specialty certification classes we offer, for your safety and ours. Please call us with questions or concerns related to your unique situation and how to submit your proof of insurance before you arrive.

Divers Alert Network (DAN) is the world’s most recognized and respected dive safety organization and has been there for divers for over 40 years. Their research, medical services and global-response programs are an extensive network of support that provides vital services such as injury prevention, safety and educational programs and lifesaving evacuations.

DAN’s not just insurance- their medical question hotline is available FREE to everyone.  

  • Need a medical signoff?  Call DAN to find a doctor educated in dive medicine in your area. 
  • Have an ear infection and not sure you can equalize?  Call DAN.
  • Had surgery recently and worried you can’t dive? Call DAN.

In any dive-related emergency, Step 1 is obviously to call Emergency Medical Services in the area.  Step 2 is to call DAN, because their doctors on staff will get on the phone with the medical team (many of whom have no background in scuba-related anything), get you treated and evacuated if needed.  Sometimes we are in remote spots or locations with less infrastructure in place. And it’s all covered.

For travel insurance they are amazing as well.

  • Got COVID on vacation? Call DAN.
  • Lost your luggage and now you’re on a liveaboard with nothing? Call DAN.
  • Did the boat crew drop your regulators? Call DAN.
