Our growing team is a collaborative group of diverse independent PADI pros working together to make a difference. Each of us comes to the table with a unique skillset, background and focus. Together we’re creating a community of inclusivity with a focus on ocean sustainability, proving that scuba is open and welcoming to all.

Dean & Bryn
Owners
Dean & Bryn are the owners of Scuba by Design. Dean is an Open Water diver and Bryn just loves the ocean.
They’re our biggest fans and are thrilled to welcome you to Catalina!
Lisa
PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, Adaptive Techniques Instructor, EFR Instructor
Lisa 100% never planned to be a diver until Rane nagged her intro trying Discover Scuba. Now she’s a full time Dive Pro and says that her whole job is to bring people joy!
Scuba by Design is Lisa’s dream, and she works hard to make the magic happen behind the scenes. Lisa also runs our Adaptive and Concierge programs and loves working with brand new divers!
Rane
PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, EFR Instructor
Rane learned to swim in the waters off Catalina Island and was certified as a diver at 17.
He has close to 6,000 dives under his weight belt and shares the love with his students every day.
He can often be found teaching at Catalina Divers Supply, but he’s always there to lend a hand if we need it.

John
PADI Platinum Course Director
John has been a PADI Instructor for 30 plus years and Course Director (Instructor-Trainer) for more than 20.
He’s taught teens to octogenarians, from every walk of life and has worked with Jacques Cousteau and his son, Jean-Michel.
John taught Lisa & Rane from Divemaster through Master Scuba Diver Trainer – he’s just the best there is!
Zac
PADI Master Instructor & Ambassadiver, EFR Instructor Trainer
Zac teaches all of our Digital Underwater Imaging and Sidemount classes and has been diving all around the world.
He’s always happy to give advice or lend a hand and can often be found taking gorgeous photos with his giant camera or deep in a cave somewhere tropical.

Larry
PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, NAUI Instructor, DAN Instructor Trainer
Co-Owner, Liquid Adrenaline Divers
Larry teaches all of our DAN programs and is a supervisor with the Catalina Island Hyperbaric Chamber.
He’s also an amazing repair tech and can often be found supervising rescues or tinkering with gear.
Ruth
PADI Divemaster & DSD Leader, NAUI, SDI & DAN Instructor
Co-Owner, Liquid Adrenaline Divers
Ruth teaches all of our DAN programs. She’s logged 2,500 dives, spending nearly 2,000 hours underwater in her career.
She teaches for the love of the ocean and all that it offers and can often be seen weeding the sargassum or zooming around on one of our scooters!
Kayla
PADI Divemaster, AIDA 3 Freediver, NAUI Scientific Diver, Ocean Mapping and Coral Restoration Engineer
Founder/ President Bleu World Foundation
Kayla leads our Discover Scientific Diving experience for certified divers and helps drive all our Citizen Science activities. She’s a passionate advocate for ocean conservation and shares that through her foundation Bleu World.
Kayla can often be found making a difference around the globe, usually with a camera in hand.

Masa
PADI Divemaster/ DSD Leader & and USCG Captain (100 Ton)
Masa began diving in 2016 and shortly thereafter, Rane & Lisa taught his Divemaster internship.
Ever since he earned his 100-Ton Captain’s License he can often be found driving a Shoreboat or captaining a Dolphin Tour for Catalina Divers Supply.
Masa is an insanely hard worker who helps make everything run smoothly when we need him!
